who designed this thing?

(it takes a while to find the buttons too)

I was driving a rental car last week when I flipped the sun visor down to have a better view of the road ahead. The visor clipped the rear view mirror and knocked it askew spoiling my view of the road behind. I fixed it but when I flipped the visor up it did the same thing. After arriving at my destination I tried to figure out what I was doing wrong. Turns out… nothing. In this particular car the visor and mirror are in a proximity that will cause this collision every time. My comment to the empty car…. “Who designed this thing?”

The human brain has created amazing, complex and useful machines, sent men to the moon and back, and probed the depths of the human genome. But even so, the Consumer Products Safety Commission and other organizations like it exist to test, evaluate and work with companies to recall “creations” that just don’t work right. Perhaps even my rental car in the future.

“For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made.” Romans 1:19-20

God’s creation on the other hand, tells the story of his amazing power and all knowing nature. The fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the ability to breathe and see and think all give testimony to a creative process that extends beyond our wildest comprehension. The immeasurable vastness of the universe gives us every reason to see and acknowledge the hand of our creator God.

Look and see what HE has made!

You have been Selected

(flying just isn't easy anymore)

I traveled this week to not one, but two conferences. They both related to the Christian Mission of the YMCA, which made the back-to-back nature tolerable, but little else was the same. Two cities, two time zones, two sponsors, two dress codes, you name it. Even two plane tickets; and there in lies the story.

Because my wife was to drive and meet me for the second event, my journey did not end where it started. Instead, I bought two one-way tickets; which earned me the opportunity to hear “you have been selected for security screening” at the Denver airport. The process turned out to be pretty simple; merely providing photo identification and having an airline representative enter a bunch of extra information into the computer prior to receiving my boarding pass.

It hadn’t occurred to me that one-way tickets would set off some kind of minor alarm, but in the times we live, I shouldn’t be surprised. I actually take comfort in the security that’s present in our airports. Sure you have to arrive earlier and the lines get long, but the payoff in peace of mind is worth it.

The end of life on earth is a one way ticket; either eternity with God or eternity without. But He provides a way for peace of mind and the process is pretty simple. Faith in Christ as our once and forever Savior is all we need.

And there aren’t any long lines!
