Thankful
Thankful
Thanksgiving is
this week and most of us will find ourselves seated around a table
intentionally reflecting on the blessings we’ve enjoyed over the past
year. Perhaps a new position or a raise
at work; perhaps a new home or an addition to the family. We may have new friendships or a plunge back
into college to be thankful for. The new
and exciting are usually what jump to mind.
Last Sunday though,
an old friend in our small group (someone we’ve know across years and
geography) brought a fresh perspective to thankfulness. A visit to a local Ronald McDonald House highlighted
for her the simple, but profound, blessing of having children who are healthy
and active. How true! Really, what would a parent want more than
that?
“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and
praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
faithfulness continues through all generations.” Psalm 100:4-5
How often do we thank God for the newest
blessing or express gratitude for the changes in our life? Contrast that with how often we are thankful
for the consistent, the recurring, or the mundane? Psalm 100 tells us the Lord
is good, forever loving and continuingly faithful. Hallelujah for that! We need not fear that God will love us more
or less for the things we do. We can
rest instead knowing his faithfulness is continuous.
Have a
wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving!
Thanks
for all you do.
Brian
