Good and gooder

(the English is poor but it makes the point)

Holy week is a wondrous time for the Christian faith. We celebrate and remember the Triumphal Entry, the Last Supper, the betrayal and the trial of Jesus. Good Friday comes and we marvel at the love of the Father who sent his sinless son to die for a lost and lonely people.

"Greater love has no man than this: that he lay down his life for his friends" John 15:13

And if Jesus had done that and that alone it would have been a most amazing thing. Thankfully the story doesn't end there. The good of Good Friday gets even better with the amazing truth of the resurrection three days later. Jesus came not just to die but also to conquer death. The authorities produced no body to refute the resurrection because there wasn't one. The apostles never recanted their story in the face of persecution and death because it was indeed the truth.

This good news, the Gospel, doesn't exist merely as a historical event. It doesn't exist merely as a supernatural occurrence that happened to other people in another time and another place. The Gospel and the truth it represents have the power to save today and the ability to shape our ongoing existence. In Christ there is nothing we could do make God love us more and nothing we have done to make him love us less.

It's very, very good.

Thanks for all you do.

Brian
