Saying you’re Sorry

Like many others, I am a big fan of Chick Fil A restaurants. Their food, quality service and commitment to a set of clear values set them apart. On a recent pass through the Atlanta airport I was excited to see a location pop up on my airport amenities app. I grabbed my usual and hustled to my gate to enjoy it (quickly) before the connecting flight. I was greatly disappointed, however, to find the chicken overcooked and the fries cold.  There was no time to go back and raise the issue in person so I followed up with an email to the contact listed on the receipt. To my great surprise and delight I received a personal phone call from the owner of the store about 10 days later.  He was apologetic, sincere and wanted to make things right to keep my loyalty and business.

“Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.”  Proverbs 28:13

The great lesson from this disappointing meal was the value of taking responsibility. There was no passing the buck, no sending of form letters and no vague excuses. They were wrong and sorry and that was that.  God expects the same type of response from us. Concealing our transgressions from God and each other accomplishes nothing.  Confessing them instead, and asking for forgiveness, brings freedom and restoration. 

What a wonderful gift that can be.
