the shortest distance between two points

(things aren't as easy as you think sometimes)

In Geometry class we were taught that many things are a “given”. Right angles are always 90 degrees. Two parallel lines will never touch no matter how long they are. And who could forget the Pythagorean Theorem? The simplest may have been that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line.

The airline industry seems to disagree with that assertion. Direct flights are only plentiful if you live near a hub airport. Otherwise a flight may include a trip in the opposite direction of your destination and almost certainly a layover along the way.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could walk through our life in a straight line? We could go from wedding day to 25th anniversary party with nary an argument or hurt feeling. We could hire on at a large company and retire at age 65 from the same firm. We could experience a completely and utterly blissful life from the day we put our faith in Christ until the day we see Him in heaven.

We could do those things…but it just doesn’t seem to work that way in reality. The detours and bumpy rides are part of the trip. And just like the airlines route us through the hub to maximize efficiencies, God routes us along a path that maximizes our relationship with him.

The line from start to finish probably won’t be straight…but it’s the line God drew for you!

Thanks for all you do.

Brian
