one accord
(not every accord is a car)
There is an old Bible joke that you may have heard:
Q. What kind of car did the disciples drive?
A. A Honda…the Bible says they were all “in one accord.”
Now I know that is a pretty bad joke…but it points us to a very important concept. The church was brand new. The disciples had learned at Jesus feet and had seen him resurrected from the dead. They certainly knew what was expected of them. But even so, without a common bond and a willingness to be a team, the spread of the gospel to the ends of the earth could have been short-circuited.
“All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers. Acts 1:14”
I was reminded of this passage as our leadership team met this past week. We left that time together very much in one accord. What power can come to a corporation, a church or a family when that focus and common purpose is found. It’s not about becoming a bunch of “yes men”. Or blindly following some destructive initiative right off the cliff. Rather, it’s about rallying around a servant-leader who has cast a God honoring vision, giving them good and proper counsel and committing as a group to see it through to the end.
Be that kind of leader for your team. You’ll see more mileage than you could imagine.
Thanks for all you do.
Brian
