Numbers
(the conferences have gone crazy)
Sports provide a wonderful diversion for many. And college sports provide a spectacle truly like no other. The conference landscape has seen many changes, realignments and defections over the last couple years. TCU even paid to leave a conference it never officially joined. We now have teams in the Western Athletic Conference as far east as Louisiana and teams in the Big East as far west as Houston. Geography is not the only subject under assault. The Big 12 conference currently has 10 schools on their roster. Conversely the Big 10 conference has 12 members. What’s up with these numbers?
“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” Psalm 90:12
The psalmist’s reference to numbers here has a larger meaning that sports of course. He is asking for the ability to slow down, to savor the moment, to appreciate each and every day. How often do we rush through the day, moving from one deadline to another? How many times do we wish we had taken more time to enjoy the planning for a special vacation? How many folks lament the “sudden” maturity of their children?
What a blessing it would be to have this simple prayer answered in your own life. To acknowledge that a day over is a day gone; to begin to love the present more than the future. To know what you have BEFORE it’s gone.
Thanks for all you do.
Brian
