cone of uncertainty
(even the weatherman doesn't know what's happening)
Hurricane Irene recently made landfall in North Carolina and worked its way slowly up the East Coast of the United States. It was not a particularly violent or memorable storm to most people. For our family though, it was the first hurricane that approached since we moved to North Carolina. We were fascinated by the meteorologists as they tried to predict what the storm might do and where it might go. My favorite term was the “cone of uncertainty”; used to describe the possible track of the storm. With all the technology and computing power at their disposal, the experts still admit they don’t quite have all the answers when it comes to hurricanes.
“We are certain that God will hear our prayers when we ask for what pleases him. And if we know that God listens when we pray, we are sure that our prayers have already been answered.” 1 John 5:14-15
The power and majesty of God’s creation continues to amaze us and confound our best attempts to quantify it. But at the center of all the uncertainty is God himself. And in His perfection we can be certain of very many things. Our prayers are always heard. Our prayers are answered. Our prayers are answered in the affirmative when we ask for what is pleasing to God.
So hold on to things that are sure. Put your trust in things that are in the cone of certainty. Pray and know that you are heard!
Thanks for all you do.
Brian
