Clouds
(they look amazing from far away but up close?)
Clouds can take many forms: puffy, flat, wispy, white, gray or even menacing. If we let our imaginations go we can even see shapes like turtles, sheep or dogs. Clouds are amazing and beautiful…when viewed from afar. But take a ride in an airplane; get up close and you discover that there really isn’t much there. Clouds are just a bunch of condensed water vapor. You can’t touch them or mold them or shape them. In fact you can see right through them. They have no base…no substance… no roots.
“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” Colossians 2:6-7
It’s easy to have the shiny, happy outward appearance of belief. From afar it looks like we have everything together. And in fact, we may even believe that we do! But when we take an up close look there may not be much there. Paul’s words encourage us to have a faith that’s real. A faith that has a base…has substance… has roots. Those roots don’t just arrive through happenstance. We have to nurture the roots by prayer, worship, interaction with fellow believers and studying God’s word. Keep moving your faith from appearance to reality!
Thanks for all you do.
Brian
